Demand Response

Do you ever wish that equipment you keep on site in case of an emergency could actually help make you some money rather than being a constant cost burden?

Thanks to the government’s demand response initiative, this wish can now be a reality. Your standby generator can be run for a maximum of 60 hours a year to help support the national grid in times of peak demand. Depending on your location & the size of your generator the financial benefit you can derive from this could be anything up to £50,000.

About the scheme

How can this be?

Currently the national grid is operating at a lower capacity than it has historically. Three years ago there was an extra 17% spare capacity available to our network operators to help meet demand at peak times. Sadly, due to power plant closures and breakdowns this figure now stands at 4%. This means that at times of peak demand our national grid needs to find a way to either increase supply or reduce demand.

This is where your business and your diesel generator can step in to help.

What can I do?

Powertecnique have partnered with energy management firm KiWi power to give our customers the chance to sell power back to the grid by running their generator at times of peak demand.

There are two main ways that this can be achieved. One is to run your generator to send power back to the grid. The other is that your generator can be run to take your business off of the grid at times of peak demand.

In order to see which option works best for you & your business, why not invite Powertecnique in to carry out a site survey and understand what needs to be done in order for you to benefit from this scheme.
