POWERTECNIQUE – PROVEN EXPERTISE
Powertecnique was formed in 1991 as a specialist one stop solution
provider of tailored, standby power supply equipment. Our project
engineering expertise encompasses the design, build and installation
of multi-module UPS and generator systems. We offer our clients
power supply solutions based upon field proven products and expertise,
supported by nationwide aftersales service support. Powertecnique
International was first registered in 1998 and continues the
same philosophy of close customer support to its international
client base.
2 x 3MVA 11kV MOBILE GENERATOR SETS
ABU AL KASIB, IRAQ

Powertecnique were given the challenging task of designing, manufacturing
and installing two mobile 2.8MVA 11kV generator sets for the Abu
Al Kasib power distribution centre near Basrah. Powertecnique’s
brief was to provide generators that could be installed and operate
on a six months continuous basis within a high temperature environment,
supplying temporary power to the Abu Al Kasib region. After six
months the sets had to be capable of being removed and relocated
to another site. Fuel tanks, large enough for three days continuous
operation, were also to be incorporated, again capable of being
relocated.
The design consists of utilising two 2.8MVA high voltage generator
sets specially configured for severe ambient temperature together
with two 40,000 litre bulk storage tanks and associated transfer
system with 11kV switchgear. All items were designed to be mobile
with skeletal and flatbed tri-axle trailers.
The generator sets incorporate fully automatic synchroninsing
equipment for black start and island operation as well as being
capable of paralleling the local grid for G5/9 (G7/5) peak lopping
duties. As the regions demand exceeds the rating of the generator
sets during peak operating periods, the switchgear allows for
preference tripping which will automatically disconnect and reconnect
loads to ensure the local region, which is mainly residential,
receives power during the day albeit for a timed period.
Specific attention was given to designing the system so it can
be transported by air for rapid deployment and to any location.
This also extended to a rapid manufacturing program due to the
urgency to complete installation before the start of the hot
season.
Powertecnique personnel will supervise local Iraqi labour to
complete the installation of the site as well as undertaking
the testing and commissioning of the complete system prior to
handover. An ongoing maintenance and service contract ensures
the sets will continue to run in peak condition.
2 X 1MVA GENERATOR SETS
SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL, BRISTOL, UK

Powertecnique has recently designed, built and installed 2 x 1MVA
diesel generator sets complete with auto-synchronising change-over
panel, 27,000 litre and 64,000 litre bulk storage tanks and fuel
transfer system.
The project was managed by Powertecnique and we undertook all
electrical, mechanical and civil work as well as full on-site testing
and commissioning of the system. All works had to be carried out
with the minimum disruption to the day-to-day running of the hospital.
The generator was designed and custom-built in accordance with
the latest NHS Health Technical Memorandum’s. The acoustic canopy
was also built to specification and has removable side panels and
an all round internal walkway to provide easy access for essential
ongoing maintenance.
1 x 500kVA GENERATOR SET
DOVER IMMIGRATION RETURNS CENTRE, UK

The
client required a generator solution that would power their entire
site for at least 200hrs. Before the new generator could be installed
the client requested that the existing generator was decommissioned
and removed from site and a temporary set provided whist the
new set is installed. Disruption to the site’s power supply had
to be kept to an absolute minimum.
The solution supplied consisted of a 500kVA POWAPLUS generator
set with a 17,000 litre environmental bunded fuel tank and transfer
system. The generator is a bespoke design that will provide enough
power to the site for several days.
The weatherproof acoustic enclosure was designed to achieve a
noise level 65dBA @ 1 metre with lockable door furniture for security
and painted in high specification 4 coat finish suitable for offshore/coastal
environments.
To keep the generator noise levels to a minimum the gen-set was
mounted on a fabricated, steel welded channel base frame to prevent
undue vibration transmission.
Powertecnique undertook construction of the base, trenches, cable
ducts, cable installation and all electrical and mechanical services
to provide a fully functional installation.
