The energy technology list

We at Powertecnique have been very proud of the energy efficiency of our leading eKasar UPS for quite some time. With efficiency levels up to 96.5% we believe that we have a market leading product which offers value and unparalleled energy efficiency.

Well, now we can independently back up that claim. Powertecnique's eKasar UPS has been included on the Energy Technology List as managed by the Carbon Trust, which means that when you purchase a new unit you are eligible for an Enhanced Capital Allowance to claim back tax on the purchase of the unit.

What is the Energy Technology List?

The Energy Technology List is a list of the 20% most efficient products within a market. Manufacturers have to apply to have their products listed, and these applications are robustly assessed by the Carbon Trust to ensure that products meet their strict requirements.

In order to be listed, manufacturers such as Powertecnique must be able to prove that their products offer a genuine reduction in energy consumption over industry standard technology. In order for a product to qualify to appear on the list, it has to be within the top 20% of all products sold within it's market for energy efficiency. This means that only the best products with the highest levels of efficiency are eligible to qualify for membership and to allow customers to claim the Enhanced Capital Allowance.

What is an ECA?

An Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) allows you to claim 100% of the tax back on any capital purchases made against products listed on the ETL.

In real terms, this means that on a £10,000 purchase you should be able to claim back £2,400. Since it's administered in the same way as usual capital allowances on your tax return, it doesn't involve any extra work for your organisation.

Not only can you save money on the capital purchase with the ECA, purchasing a more energy efficient unit will help to reduce your operating expenditure through lower energy consumption.

Between the ECA and this reduction in operating expenditure, there is a very valid business reason for upgrading your legacy UPS to something more modern and energy efficient.

For more information visit the ECA website.

How can I apply?

The Carbon Trust have a four step process to claiming your ECA.

  1. Choose a product that complies with the ETL criteria from the ECA website

  2. Make a capital purchase of energy-saving plant & machinery

  3. Obtain documentation to support your claim for an ECA e.g. dated invoide and dated 'ETL screen print'

  4. Claim the allowances on your business's tax return (as with other capital allowances)

That's it! It really is that simple. If you're interested in claiming your ECA and purchasing an eKasar UPS, then you can get in touch with Powertecnique or find our more about the eKasar.
