A simple guide to the main components and maintenance of a generator – Part 3: The control panel
For the past two weeks we’ve been running a blog series on the key parts of a generator, and the maintenance that a unit requires to keep it functioning. Over the past two weeks we’ve taken a look at the engine and alternator. Today we have a brief post on the role of the control panel.

Control Panel
“Last but not least – the third element is the control panel. Usually mounted on the alternator, this device controls the operation of the engine and alternator, maintaining the voltage and frequency of the electrical output. The control panel also monitors any events, alarms or warnings, so that the user can best protect the generator from unforeseen problems.

“The control panel may also interface with other generators for parallel operation and other equipment such as remote monitoring, management systems, electrical switchgear and fuel transfer.”
